It was real shock to hear from ACE Hunter, that Earl had passed away. His family will be in our thoughts and prayers. I was in school with Earl at Dam Neck, in Virginia Beach VA. I drove him up to Harrisonburg VA. to see ACE Hunter. His TAGS site is a great place to remember the good old days. I really enjoyed the NOT real Navy. Thanks Chet and Phil for rescuing and preserving this site.

I was very saddened to see your posts regarding Earl's passing. While I was not a shipmate of his and thus can't say that we were close friends, I did have an opportunity to communicate frequently with him while my materials were being added to the site. This site means a tremendous amount to me and I am virtually a daily visitor to the guest log always hoping to reconnect with a long lost friend and shipmate. It'll be devastating if all of this content disappears. I do not have the technical skills to contribute to your restoration efforts but if a financial contribution would be of assistance please don't hesitate to contact me via email. This site is too good to be lost.

Today 26 Feb 2015 Phil and I learned that Earl was interred at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan 49012.

He is buried at Section 4A site 1083. His marker reads as follows:

ET1 US Navy
Vietnam
Date of Birth: 09 19 1947
Date of Death: 11 24 2014

There is a lot I would like to say but right now the shock of Earl's passing is too fresh. Phil and I are going to do everything we can to continue Earl's site. As Phil stated in his notice above, the site will be down for about four months. This is unavoidable due to domain rules.

Ernest Edward or E.E. Emmons I am a daughter

My father had wonderful memories of his time on board, it was one of his favorite duty stations. He met Marie Muldoon when porting in Belfast and married her, and proceeded to have me and my two sisters Patti and Tina. Dad retired from the Navy in 1974 with 26 years of service, thank you for being able to view the pictures and to have the opportunity to read abit about his life on board. Sorry to say dad passed away Aug 3 2013 at age 82 we loved and miss him and are very proud of his service and those who he served with in the Navy. It is with heavy heart that he isn't here to know that one of his granddaughters (my youngest) was selected to enter into the Navy Nurse Candidate Program will be entering the Navy Nurse Corps upon graduation of nursing school this Dec 2015 followed by ODS in Newport Rhode Island, we know he would have been so very proud. Dad would have loved to have seen this site, I happened to stumble across it. I married a sailor as well and he retired in 2008 after 24 years in submarines. Came aboard the Bowditch in July 1975 as magnetics rep. (maggot). It was the first of seven 2 to 3 month trips over a seven year period. Unfortunately I lost most of my photos and memorabilia in hurricane Katrina. I used to have the patches pictured on the home page of this site. Great times on those big old ships.

A few days after Thanksgiving in 1962 Michelson was tied up starboard side to a pier at Harland & Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland. After a long transatlantic flight via Gander, Newfoundland and Glasgow, Scotland I arrived in the middle of the night. An empty chair greeted me at the top of the gangway. Nobody was in sight. Poking my head through the hatch, I found a bunch of guys hanging out in the bos'n's cabin. One of them told me "just go down those stairs over there. That's where is Navy is". Thus began a most memorable two year cruise on a survey ship.

Always fond memories of my times with OCU 2. Thanks for stirring up some of them :)

I see that you don't have any of the old timers listed. I was aboard from the middle of 1958 to mid Dec 1959. If you are interested I can probably remember some of my shipmates. I was an IC3 at the time. Sort of funny, one of my neighbor's family name is Dutton and I live on Michelson St.
