This device replaced Nansen Bottles to determine sound velocity at different depths.

Looking for the Velocimeter

Waiting for the sensor head to reach the surface. Things occasionally went wrong. I recall watching a silver cylinder spinning high in the air, because we didn't slow the winch down in time!
