Having a pint in the same pub.
Tom Pusateri, Bob Patton, Neil Schmidt and Gary Humber heading out on liberty in England.
Note the rat guard. It may be an illusion, but the rat guard appears to be installed backwards! Perhaps this was an attempt to keep the rats from getting OFF the ship. If so, it didn't work! This is even funnier because of our nicknames. We had installed in all the staterooms and work spaces a speaker that could be patched into Armed Forces Radio or to a tape deck in NIC. Whoever had the Nav watch was also the DJ. We called our radio show "Rat Radio, your only North Atlantic radio station". We all took on cheesy DJ names. My best friend Neil Schmidt was "The Sharp Cheddar" and I was the "Provolone Poose" with reference to my last name.
In front of a castle either in Southampton or London.
Most of the castle had been bombed out during WW II, only the gate and part of a wall were left.
At the castle wall.
Note the WAY OUT sign.
On the Isle of Wight.
Neil Schmidt (Navy ET) is on the right, Gary Humber (Navy ET) is on the left. Nice shot of their backs! We took a hover craft over to the Isle and a hydro foil back. Very high tech for the 70's.
