Kisses the Royal Foot of Queen Amphitrite (Penny).

Receives the attentions of the Royal Barber. (Plenty of hair to cut during this era of the USN.)

Completes the ceremony in the Royal Bath, which "washes away all ills". A Shellback at last!

This makes it official. Now a Shellback, Harvey Edwards gets his reward, the Shellback Certficate, this one awarded in America's Bicentennial year on June 2, 1976. (A copy is added to a sailor's service record. If you lose it and go across the equator again on a different ship, guess what?)
